What an eventful year 2019 was for Southwell Business Networking Club!
But for our full story, we need to go back a little bit further to November 2018 as this is when it all started with a launch party at the Hearty Goodfellow in Southwell, Nottinghamshire. At this launch event, Mandy Hopkins of Imagine Digital Marketing set out her plans and vision for a new networking club in Southwell.
One thing that will make our club a little bit different is that we will be entirely not-for-profit. All monies raised from business owners attending our meetings will be donated to local charities or used to support local community projects.Mandy Hopkins, Southwell Business Club
How much did we raise for charity in 2019?
Since the club formed our members have been busy with business networking, social fundraising events and collaborations. And we’re really pleased to say that as a not-for-profit club we actually managed to raise a total of £1541.16 for various local charities in 2019.
But it hasn’t all been about raising money for charitable causes. We’ve also been busy building our business connections. To celebrate on 6th December 2019 we held a joint 1st birthday and Christmas Party at The Hearty Goodfellow. Our thanks to club members Joanne Ferguson of Hunter Global Business Solutions (who baked us a cake), Sameena Alladin of Chattertons Solicitors who provided champagne for a celebratory toast and Tracey Rose from Chameleon Design & Print who provided a cheque and birthday balloons.
Julie Levers from Mind Nottinghamshire is seen here collecting a cheque for £1241.16 from club members. The money raised will go towards providing much-needed support to people dealing with mental health problems.
How did we manage to raise £1541.16?
Firstly, a huge shout out to Lisa White and her team at the Hearty Goodfellow who looked after us so well when we held our networking meetings in the Barn function room throughout 2019. Lisa provided the food at cost, meaning that the majority of our meeting fee could be added to the SBNC charity pot. We’re only sorry that we won’t be meeting at the Hearty in 2020 as due to the success of the club we have now outgrown our favourite venue. I’m sure we will be back at some point though when we need to hold smaller, club planning meetings.
Frog Race at Southwell Golf Club
At an event organised in September last year, whilst having lots of fun racing frogs, a total of £664.02 was raised for charity. Thank you to all the local businesses who came along to support us. Our race sponsors included Legume Technology, Hunter Global Business Solutions, Imagine Digital Marketing, Succession Wealth, Kevin Manners Denture Clinics, Children’s House Nursery and Chameleon Design & Print and last but not least … the winning team C P Walker Insurance Brokers. Well done to all eight teams taking part and also the Rotary Club of Vale of Belvoir for running this event for us!! A great night out whilst raising money for local charities.
From the proceeds raised at the Frog Race we gave a £100 donation to Southwell Golf Club for Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, £200 to Rotary Club of Vale of Belvoir for running the event and £364.02 was added to the Club’s Charity Pot for Mind Nottinghamshire. Well done Justin Hevness of C P Walker and his team who were our Frog Race Champions 2019!
Throughout the year, we also raised money at our monthly business meetings with raffle prizes kindly donated by club members.
How many business club members do we have?
At the start of 2020, we’re pleased to say that we have 14 regular club members. We also have ad hoc members who come along to meetings when they can.
A few visitors also attend who have heard about our club and want to find out more.
Where will meetings be held in 2020?
As the club continues to grow we have outgrown previous venues and so for 2020, we have secured a larger venue in Southwell for our monthly networking events.
The majority of our meetings this year will take place at the Admiral Rodney, in the carvery restaurant where we have plenty of space to grow club numbers. For a full list of events planned and member/guest speakers organised, please visit our events page for further details.
Our monthly meetings are always held on the first Thursday of the month at 6 pm prompt. Meetings are relaxed but structured and an agenda and attendee list are sent out to everyone ahead of the meeting. The meeting fee includes the cost of a light meal and drinks can be purchased before the meeting commences.
Plans are in place to increase membership in 2020 by taking advantage of both traditional and digital marketing methods to promote the club. The member presentation slot on Thursday 2nd January, our first networking meeting of the new decade, was by Club Chair Mandy Hopkins of Imagine Digital Marketing. What better time than the start of a new year and decade to focus on how digital 2020 vision and planning is key to the success of your digital marketing strategy?
Are you interested in coming along to meet your new business support network?
If so we would love to meet you at one of our meetings in 2020. By support, we don’t mean come along and ‘sell’ to each other. We believe in building relationships and learning about each other with member presentations and the opportunity to network in a relaxed setting. The selling and referring part doesn’t happen overnight. You need to first build trust and confidence.
Visitors are very welcome to come along to find out more about our club. We provide the support you need for your business with face to face professional and structured networking events.
Please reserve your place for one of our meetings in 2020 via Eventbrite. We shall look forward to seeing you at one of our friendly, relaxed networking meetings this year.
